Somewhere knocking around is an old paperback of pre-Homeric poetry translations that I found for a dollar at the bookshop and promptly lost. I'll have to go dig it up.

You know, I've never come across any variant of this "Unquiet Dead" story, btw. It sounds most like the British Isles ballad of the mother who calls her three sons who were training to be wizards back from the grave, and the German poem Lenore, but not really like either, with its emphasis on filial piety.
