What gay people want is *full* recognition of equality, not just the symbol without the rights, nor just the rights without the symbol. But rather both.

And if people would just stop thinking in terms of symbols--which are false by nature--acceptance would be much easier to achieve. But unfortunately we live in a world more symbolic than it is material.
